Subject: Great track!!
Date: Wed, 23 Jun 2004 14:47:18 -0600
From: Tom Bonifas

I just wanted to drop you note to say thanks for the wicked fast
response/shipment of the 3-lane 40 foot, Freedom track I ordered last
week. Truly a pleasure to do business with you, then I got the boxes
delivered! WOW! I'm impressed! Assembled the sections, start gate,
support, etc. last night and was simply blown away, I can't wait to put
the whole thing together and run our first race.

Quality unit, great customer service, more than reasonable cost, fast
shipment, we will truly be the envy of the rest of our scout district
and the kids are going to go wild when they see this beauty all set up
come race day. You made me a hero in our packs, councils' eyes.

Thanks again.

Dear Gary:

We had a very successful Derby, and I am sure that everyone loves the
new track that you made for us. We didn't call for help constructing it;
the instructions were pretty good, and the Cuubmaster is a building
contractor and another of the dads builds elevators for a living.

Thanks again for getting it to us on time.

Again, thanks.

Gary,

I just wanted to say what a wonderful time we had using our new Pinewood
Derby track we ordered from you. As you probably know, the Derbies are
as much for the dads as for the boys and all of our dads were "oohing
and aahing" at the quality and finish of the track, the ease of assembly
and the spring-loaded starting gate. It was super fast (winning avg.
time was 2.454 sec.) and the boys were thrilled. What really makes me
happy is, as one of my final major acts as Cubmaster, the track will be
a legacy for years to come. Thanks again.

Subject: 31st Calgary Kub Kar (Pinewood Derby) Track
Date: Mon, 15 Mar 2004 01:36:28 -0700
From: JEFF HETHERINGTON

Dear Gary,

*Thank you so much* for all your efforts and personal attention in
getting our new track here in time for our events, which are ongoing
through March and into April.

*I felt that your customer service attention and e-mailings deserved
feedback* for future consideration and by way of a note of appreciation.

*First off, the shipping packaging* with the wooden end pieces proved to
be durable and first rate, and the track is a beautiful piece of work.

*Our leaders especially appreciated*, from a risk management point of
view, that the finishing details like the sharp edges were ground off as
your marketing messages promised.

*We all admired the fit and finish* in achieving a virtually seamless
and totally fair track.

*As you may recall, we were disappointed* with the MENLO delivery to
Canada in that it didn't include all the running around and brokerage so
I'd definitely suggest UPS for your Canadian buyers, if brokerage is
included in the UPS price. Otherwise, Menlo is 50% more expensive and
100% disinterested in dealing with the situation. But they are fast in
getting the product here ? like 2 days.

*We also appreciated all the little extra* pieces and instructions you
included for a Micro Wizard starter, along with the extra drilling. We
felt a very personal connection to you. You are "our supplier". We're
going to show off this track at our big Area meet in April so don't be
surprised if you get more orders from Calgary.

*Even if our kids'* Kub Kars (Pinewood Derby Cars) don't win out midst
dozens of other Groups, your track will certainly blow their socks off!

*As for the assembly instructions*, bear with me on this...I'm a
marketing communications type professional...so consider my comments and
what they're worth, not only for assembly ease but for purchase decision
substantiation.

*My observation of our leaders* is that it would be appropriate to have
a Parts List included with the instructions (I know, it's redundant
but...) plus more detailed, simplified (read dumbed down) and segmented
instructions on each aspect of the assembly (track, starter gate, brake
assembly) plus visual support (and higher resolution visuals) for each
part of each of the assembly stages, prepared from and for a consumer's
(read housewife) point of view. Please don't take this as a criticism,
just a proactive observation.

*And it would be worthwhile* to note that assemblers shouldn't
over-tighten the Starter Gate in connecting it to the track as that will
impede the free action of the Starter Gate.

*As another suggestion*, consider the pvc tube used to hold the
buyer-added plate weights. One of my leaders was concerned with the ease
that the foot long tube could be knocked out of place by a youngster and
easily demonstrated such a situation.

*We replaced the foot long 1/2 inch diameter pvc tube *plate weight
holder* *with a 2 foot long piece of 1/2 inch galvanized pipe (an 18
inch section of pipe for the three lane track would have been perfectly
suitable), threaded both ends, finished with rounded caps on both ends.

*We used about five 5/32 inch hex wrenches* to put the track together as
well as a rubber mallet. These points might be considered with the
assembly package or in the instructions, with a corresponding
adjustment in price as necessary.

*We also used doubled up duck tape* with great success to hold the
under-track wooden shims in place (so far so good) as opposed to Scotch
brand double sided tape.

*We also used RV type aluminum cleaner* to remove the oxidization and
polish the track.

*I'll let you know of any and all other feedback* as we get to know the
track, it's disassembly and reassembly but, for now, our eyes are
gleaming with appreciation for this super track. Well done, Gary and to
your family members and team.

*It's been a pleasure!
*

Subject: Wonderful track!
Date: Sat, 13 Mar 2004 19:27:17 -0800
From: "Chadwick Brinton, Jr."

Dear Gary,

We're having a great time with the track. A local church just ran an 80
car race (Timothy Cup-Raceway Ministries) with nothing but good comments
like: beautiful track, where did you get it? Of course I explaned that
it came from your company and that you also made the best oars for boats
and fine wooden tracks.

I had many ideas about how to install Supertimer II into your aluminum
track and went with the simplest, easiest way. The finish line sensors
are very thin plastic wafers (strain guages) with two wires attached.
These were installed using standard rubber test tube stoppers cut in
half lengthwise and pushed into 5/8 dia. holes that were drilled in the
track (strain guage between the halves). I can send digital pictures if
you'd like, I know this may be hard to visualize. The start gate that
came with the track is really cool so I just added the solenoid release
to the lever provided, with a hand fabricated link and so far it has
worked flawlessly.

Pinewood Derby Racing must be contagious because I thought I would be
setting up two or three times a year and already have two done and three
more scheduled and it's only March. I really need those 2 stop ramps
that I called about, I hope they are on the way, the next race is in 3
weeks. Please let me know if you want pictures of the Supertimer
installation and/or race photos.

Sincerely,
Chadwick Brinton, Jr.

Gary,
This is an impressive design for storage a box! Thanks for the nice
instructions too.

We had our race last night using the new Freedom track. Boy what a
difference over our old hand-me-down wood track! This track will become
the envy of all the packs in our district. I know you guys put your
hearts into designing and building these beautiful tracks and just let
me say thanks from all the boys and families of Pack 674 in Montgomery
Ohio. If anyone ever would like to talk to a satisfied customer then
put me down as a referal.

I would like to ask a few questions on the storage box design:
1. Will this accomodate our 4 lane 40' track plus accesories or do I
need to scale it to fit the longer than standard track?
2. Can I substitute more locks for the piano hinges? I feel like this
might be cheaper and easier to work with if you concur that a slight
customer field modification is advisable.

Keep up the good work!

God bless,
Geoff Hodges

I wanted to say thanks for all the hard work and effort in getting us
our new Freedom Series aluminum track. I know you had some problems
with a couple of your suppliers but you really came through for us.

We got the final hardware on Thursday afternoon just in time to set it
up and test it for the racing to start on Friday.

Everyone was really impressed with the new track. In fact a den leader
from another pack attended our race and wanted to know if we would rent

The track sets up easy, the cars run smooth and the quality is top notch.

fix that ourselves. We had also purchased a micro wizard timer, which
you folks had drilled the track for, that made it extremely easy to set
that part up. The track was fast. We set it up on tables, so the crowd

Thank you for the excellent workmanship on the 4-Lane Pinewood Derby
Track
you built for our Cub Scout Pack. We had a great time putting it

and adding the timer we bought and the Derby race went off without a

We had several races that were won by only .001 sec diffferences!

We are interested to know if anyone has done a statistical analysis on
the
tracks that you build to determine if all lanes have an equal chance at
winning. Do you have any data on this that you could share? I was
planning
to do my own study anyway by using one or two derby cars and testing

Anyway, the new track was a big hit for boys and adults. Thanks again

Please extend a large "Thank You" to your craftsmen!

Our pack ordered one of your 4 lane tracks, and during our planning
meetings, I was elected to be this year's "Pinewood Derby Chairperson".
I set up a few evenings for some volunteer's ("victims" ) to help
urethane the track, and opened the crate for the first time.

I wasn't expecting a piece of furniture! The quality of the lumber, the
precision, the "out of the box" finish, and the obvious forethought of
design is incredible. Just a light sanding to break the edges, and a
little on the racing surface, and we were ready to finish. Great Job!

A tip you may want to include to your customers. If they choose to
finish their track, I suggest they get a handful of 1/4-20 x 1" bolts.
(NOT the fasteners supplied by you). Thread these into the T-nuts from
the "wrong" side on the appropriate track sections or pieces. This will
prevent whatever finishing materials they choose from goobering up the
threads, and provide a stand to allow drying. (We didn't learn the "hard
way", but I could see it happening).

Again, please thank your craftsmen, they do beautiful work.

Gary,

Just wanted to send a quick note regrading the 6 lane derby track we
purchased. It was light, easy to assemble and our derby was "the best
one ever" according to some of the parents. That was evident by the 80+
smiling faces of cubscouts gathered around the perimeter cheering for
the cars.

On behalf of our pack, thanks for the fine craftsmanship and for helping
make our derby a success.

Sincerely,
Jeff Olson

I wanted to let you know how successful our 40th Pinewood Derby went
using
our new four lane track from Micro Wizard, Inc. Until this year we
were
using a homemade two lane track with a crude timer system. The old
track
served it purpose well until our Scout pack grew to over 70 boys. More
lanes and upgraded timing seemed to be a worthy goal at that point. The
boys were able to buy a new track this year with their popcorn sales
proceeds. Take a look at the results of good equipment and great help.
Thanks again for the excellent workmanship and timely delivery of our
new 4
lane track.

the
lanes.

Gary,We are very pleased with our new Piantedosi PWD. Thought you might
enjoy some pics of your product in action. I finished the track as
recommended (cherry). The braking pads were removed and a 4' braking
section constructed and attached to the end of the last track section
using the same method you use for attaching each section. I received
many comments on the fine workmanship and design of the your track. My
biggest difficulty has been the pronunciation of your name. Thanks
again for delivering everything as
promised. http://www.cubscoutpack36.org/events/pinewood/PWD2002.htm

Dear Gary,

The track got to us on time. My husband put it together Friday night
for the
race on Saturday. Everyone loved it. It is nice to have our own track
and
not have to borrow someone elses. You did a beautiful job, worth every
penny. We never would have found the time to make it ourselves. Thanks

everything.

Gary,

Our Pack borrowed a Piantedosi track this year and were very impressed.
Yes, we had one of those old clunkers that took two hours to set up and
align prior to the race. It also took a few able-bodied men to haul
each
section from our storage closet. We could always count on a couple cars
jumping the track during the race. We did not have a single car jump
the
track this last year on the Piantedosi track.

We belong to the Colonial District here in the Washington DC area and
the
last district race included 4 of your tracks. One track was delivered
that
day and the container was first opened that evening prior to the event.
For
me, this was the clincher. The setup was smooth as silk and was handled
by
a couple of guys including myself who had never set one up before.

Just out of curiosity do you have any 4-lane tracks currently available
or
will we need to wait for the start of your new building season starting
Labor Day?

We are also interested in a timer and software set up. Is it possible
to
find out which timer appears to be the most popular among the three
links
provided?

As soon as we figure out the timer we are ready to order. We had a
great
year selling popcorn and after the experience with the borrowed track it
was
a unanimous vote by the pack committee to buy our own Piantedosi track.

Good morning Corey,

The pack has used the Piantedosi pinewood Derby track for two years running.
It's the best investment we made.

The track goes together extremely easy and the alignment of the sections are
always perfect. It is well thought out and a great design. My only suggestion
is to construct or obtain a storage container for all the components and you
will have many, many years of enjoyable racing. The finishing process is a
needed step for our Central Florida climate and I recommend that you do the
same. It will add years to your track life.

We added an electronic timer (Micro Wizard) to the track and now we enjoy
trouble free racing. Last year, the difference between first and second was .
002 seconds! Too close for the human eye but the timer leaves no question or
doubt.

Well, I hope that this helps, feel free to call me or e-mail me for more.
Happy racing!

Gary,
I wanted to say thanks for all the hard work and effort in getting us our new
Freedom Series aluminum track. I know you had some problems with a couple of
your suppliers but you really came through for us.

We got the final hardware on Thursday afternoon just in time to set it up and
test it for the racing to start on Friday.

Everyone was really impressed with the new track. In fact a den leader from
another pack attended our race and wanted to know if we would rent them our
track (they can't afford to buy one at this time).

The track sets up easy, the cars run smooth and the quality is top notch.
Again, I just wanted to say thanks.

Thanks,
David
